News release from Newport PD. On Wednesday, March 18, 2015, Newport Police Officers responded to an injury motor vehicle crash on South Coast Highway in front of City Hall. A subsequent investigation determined that Landon C. Plaster, age 19 of Newport, was traveling south-bound on Hwy 101 in a 2004 Dodge Neon. Plaster was found to be Speed Racing with Sidney M. Walker, age 20 of Newport. Walker was south-bound operating a 1994 Toyota Corolla. Plaster impacted the vehicle of Sharon K. Henley, age 75 of Newport. Henley was pulling onto Hwy 101 north-bound, from the Dollar Tree parking lot, in her 1998 Pontiac Bonneville. Walker’s vehicle was not physically involved in the crash. Both Plaster and Henley were found to be wearing their seatbelts; there was airbag deployment in both vehicles. Both Plaster and Henley were transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities hospital by Pac West Ambulance. They were treated for their injuries, and released. As a result of the investigation and crash reconstruction, Walker was arrested on April 2, 2015 and lodged in the Lincoln County Jail for Reckless Driving, and Reckless Endangering. His bail was set at $30,000. Plaster arrested on April 3, 2015 and was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail for Assault IV, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, and Criminal Mischief II. Bail was set at $60,000. Both Plaster and Walker were cited for the violation of Speed Racing, which carries a presumptive fine of $435.00 each. The Newport Police Department was assisted in this investigation by the Newport Fire Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the Oregon State Police, and the Oregon Department of Transportation Incident Response Unit.
