Squatters arrested, Jan. 18

News release CCSO.  On 01-13-17 at approximately 1430 hours, Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 63680 West Fork Millicoma Road, Coos Bay for a report of Trespassers (squatters).  After a subsequent investigation, Deputies learned trespassers had moved into an empty house that was owned by Byron and Roberta Ernst which had been empty for the last two years.  The subjects were identified as Raymond J. Furr, 36 YOA and Christy E. Furr, 52 YOA, both of Coos Bay, Oregon. When the Byron’s came to check on their home they found that trespassers had made forced entry through the front door of their unoccupied home, removed the posted “NO TRESPASSING” signs and taken up residence. When the home owners confronted Raymond and Christy Furr, the Furr’s claimed Squatters Rights and refused to leave when asked.  Oregon does not have or recognize any rights for squatters.  Mr. Furr further trespassed on a neighboring property to store his personal property.  The Furrs turned on power and phone to the residence using a falsified rental agreement but were living without running water in the residence. Christy Furr was given the opportunity to retrieve her personal property and leave the residence.  She was cited for Burglary I and Criminal Trespass I. Raymond Furr was arrested and transported to the Coos County Jail for Burglary I, Criminal Trespass I and II, Forgery I and Criminal Mischief II. The residence was boarded up and both subjects were advised not to return to the residence without a court order to retrieve their remaining property.
