Coos Bay Public Library hosts “Stand Up and Fight for Uncle Sammy: The Coos Bay Region and the Great War” on Tuesday, January 9th at 7:00 p.m.  featuring Marshfield High and Brown University graduate Becky Soules. For residents of the Coos Bay region, the battlefields of the Western Front might have been half a world away, but World War I nonetheless had an indelible impact on their lives. Both soldiers and civilians served their country in a multitude of ways, with many of them making the ultimate sacrifice. In commemoration of the World War I Centenary, we remember their stories.  The title “Stand Up and Fight for Uncle Sammy” refers to one of the three patriotic tunes composed by local resident, Jay B. Tower. This free program, sponsored by the Friends of Coos Bay Public Library is open to the public.  For more information call 541.269.1101 or visit www.coosbaylibrary.org.  The library is located at 525 Anderson Avenue.
