As the season begins to change and kids head back to school, recreational use begins to slow at many campgrounds, including those managed by the Oregon Department of Forestry. With that in mind, ODF will begin closing several of its campgrounds in the Northwest Oregon Area. Clatsop State Forest: * Beaver Eddy Campground — closing Sept. 11; * Henry Rierson Spruce Run Campground — all but 12 sites closing Sept. 11; * Northrup Creek Horse Camp — closing Sept. 11; * Viewpoint Campground — closing Oct. 29; * Gnat Creek Campground — open all year. Santiam State Forest: * Butte Creek Campground — closed Sept. 5; * Rhody Lake — open until November based on snow level; * Rock Creek Campground — closed Sept. 5; * Santiam Horse Camp — closing Oct. 30; * Shellburg Falls Campground — closing Oct. 2. Tillamook State Forest: * Browns Camp — closing Oct. 30; * Diamond Mill OHV Staging Area — open all year; * Elk Creek Campground — closing Sept. 25; * Gales Creek Campground — closing Sept. 25; * Jones Creek Campground –closed Sept. 5; * Jordan Creek OHV Staging Area — closed Sept. 5; * Keening Creek Campground — all but six sites closed Sept. 5; * Nehalem Falls Campground — closed Sept. 5; * Reehers Camp — closing Sept. 25; * Stagecoach Horse Camp — open all year; * Morrison Eddy — open all year. Use of Northrup Creek Horse Camp may be accommodated through a Special Use Permit from September 11 to December 1. Contact the Astoria District Office at (503) 325-5451 for more details. Dispersed camping on the Clatsop, Santiam, and Tillamook State Forests is also allowed all year with a maximum stay of 21 days.
