SALEM, Ore. – An Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) state forests advisory group will meet Thursday, September 16 virtually via Zoom to discuss recovery plans for the Shellburg Falls recreation area and ensuring safe public access after the 2020 Labor Day fires. This forest project is being considered as the 2nd and final phase of the ODF North Cascades Fiscal Year 2022 Annual Operations Plan. Aspects of the proposed plan include resource protection measures, hazard mitigation and public safety, limited post-fire timber harvest, maintaining the area’s scenic value in a post-fire environment, and potential education and interpretation opportunities. This plan is being developed with the goal of meeting the state’s obligation to provide social, environmental and economic values to Oregonians. The State Forests Advisory Committee will meet at 10 a.m. via the Zoom virtual meeting platform at https://odf.zoom.us/j/99259150225. The meeting agenda will be posted at http://www.oregon.gov/ODF/Board/Pages/SFAC.aspx. A public comment opportunity will be provided at the beginning of the meeting. Requests for an interpreter for the hearing impaired or other accommodations for persons with disabilities should be made at least 48 hours prior to the meeting.
