News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On the morning of 07/05/2016 at about 9:13 AM, a Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to a report from a female subject in the Hauser area, that she wanted a gun to hunt suicidal subjects. Thirty-three year old Hauser resident, Desirea Chapman, had called the Sheriff’s Office asking for a gun to hunt suicidal subjects and also stated there were subject in her home wanting to hurt her. A Sheriff’s Deputy was sent to make a welfare check on Ms. Chapman, and after arriving at her residence on Sandbug Road, in the Community of Hauser, found that she was fine and not in any type of conflict. Ms. Chapman did tell the deputy about the people in her house and when the deputy made contact with a male subject there, 63 year old Robert Olson, who also lived at that residence, the deputy found that Mr. Olson had a misdemeanor warrant for Failure to appear out of Medford PD. The deputy took Mr. Olson out to his patrol car, a marked 2013 Ford Explorer, Police SUV Interceptor to secure him for his trip to the Coos County Jail. The deputy was in the process of patting down Mr. Olson and placing him in the back right seat of the patrol car when Ms. Chapman jumped into the driver’s seat of the of the patrol car. The Sheriff’s Deputy was alerted to Ms Chapman jumping into the driver’s seat by Mr. Olson. The deputy attempted to get to Ms. Chapman but she locked the car doors and backed up then drove off. The deputy radioed to the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center but was the only officer in the area at the time. Sheriff’s Deputies, North Bend Police Confederated Tribal Police and OSP Troopers all responded towards the community of Hauser attempting to locate the stolen police vehicle. At about 9:50 AM the Sheriff’s Office was alerted that Douglas County Deputies were in pursuit of the vehicle on Hwy 38 going through Reedsport and heading out Hwy 38 where it eventually crashed, striking at least 4 other vehicles. Ms. Chapman was arrested at that scene and reports are being compiled by agencies in both Coos and Douglas Counties and the Oregon state Police regarding this incident. Coos County is considered the victim agency from which the vehicle was stolen, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the pursuit portion of the incident and the Oregon State Police the crash portion of the incident.
