News release Newport PD. On November 25, 2016 Newport Police Officers conducted an initial investigation into a stolen vehicle complaint. A black 2010 Toyota Scion was stolen from the Walmart parking lot. The victim, a local area resident, had previously reported her keys stolen while she was shopping at the location. On November 26, 2016, at approximately 3:30 a.m., the vehicle was located and recovered. It had been parked and abandoned on a dirt road in the Agate Beach area. The investigation continued, resulting in Sean Alan Rogers, age 38 of Newport, being named as the suspect in the case. On Wednesday November 30, 2016, at 4:00 p.m., Newport Police Officers contacted Rogers at his residence in Agate Beach. He was taken into custody without incident. He was lodged at the Lincoln County Jail, and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle; Aggravated Theft 1st Degree; and Theft in the 3rd Degree. His bail amount was set at $157,000. We would like to thank the public for their assistance in this investigation. Several tips and investigative leads were received, which resulted in the timely apprehension of Rogers.
