News release CCSO. In the early morning hours of 5/3/2017 a Coos Bay resident reported to the Coos Bay Police Department that their car, a silver 1999 Subaru Legacy had been stolen from their residence on 8th Street in Coos Bay. Upon taking the report the Coos Bay Police Department sent out an “Attempt to Locate” on the stolen vehicle. Shortly afterward a Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy observed the car driving up Coos River Highway, east of Coos Bay. Additional Sheriff’s Deputies and Oregon State Police Troopers responded to the area to assist in searching for the vehicle. The car was found abandoned at the boat ramp on North Coos River and the driver and passenger had fled from the vehicle. Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Slater and Canine Odin responded to assist searching for the suspects. Canine Odin struck an active track of the suspect which went approximately 3 miles before pushing the suspects into perimeter units where they were located and arrested. Travis Sapp Jr, age 20, and Whitney Bell, age 24, were both arrested and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle. They were transported and lodged at the Coos County Jail. This is the 46 and 47th suspect which canine Odin has assisted in the apprehension of.
