Recent storms have caused significant damage to recreation facilities in Ecola State Park. Ecola Road from Ecola Point to Indian Beach and Indian Beach Trail leading north from Ecola Point day-use area are closed. Park Manager Ben Cox says recent heavy rains damaged temporary repairs to Indian Beach Trail made after a series of 2015-2016 storms. Ecola Road from Ecola Point to Indian Beach also sustained heavy damage after last winter’s storms. Last month’s heavy rains caused additional sinking and sliding of the road surface and surrounding area, as well as erosion at the Canyon Creek culvert. “Day-use parking at Ecola Point and Crescent Beach Trail remain open,” said Cox. “We don’t know how long it will take to repair Indian Beach Trail and Ecola Road, and the rainy season has just started, further hindering our work.” The road closure prevents access to the northern portion of the park, including Clatsop Loop Trail. The usual $5 day-use parking fee at Ecola State Park is waived temporarily until repairs are made and conditions are safe for visitors. The day-use fee will be reinstated without notice after the repairs. Cox added that Tillamook Head Trail north trailhead near Seaside is open, but visitors should watch for possible trail damage. He also asked visitors to drive cautiously and watch for sides and slumps on Ecola Road from Cannon Beach to Ecola Point. The road is open and park rangers are monitoring conditions.
