Asking for return, CBPD release. The Coos Bay Police Department is investigating a report of theft of lost or mislaid property from March 27th 2018. This occurred in the intersection of Newmark Ave and Ocean Blvd around 10:00 AM. Video footage shows a bright yellow Pelican case containing surveying equipment falling out of the back of a pickup into the roadway around that time. CBPD has video footage of a vehicle stopping in the intersection and picking up the case. As of today March 28th 2018 no one has come forward to return the equipment. This would be a theft of lost or mislaid property, a felony in this particular situation if the property is not returned. If you picked up this property, please feel free to turn it to CBPD so it can be returned to the owner. This investigation is continuing. ORS 164.065 Theft of lost, mislaid property- A person who comes into control of property of another that the person knows or has good reason to know to have been lost, mislaid or delivered under a mistake as to the nature or amount of the property or the identity of the recipient, commits theft if, with intent to deprive the owner thereof, the person fails to take reasonable measures to restore the property to the owner.
