Southwestern Oregon Community College and North Bend High School graduate, Nicole Wales, has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious University of Oregon Scholarship for Oregon Scientists (SOS II).  The SOS II program provides scholarships of up to $10,000 to incoming freshmen and transfer students majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, or physics at the University of Oregon. Twelve to fifteen scholarships are awarded to incoming students each year.  Nicole, who is attending University of Oregon this fall as a junior, was also selected to serve as a Teaching Assistant for a General Chemistry course, a position that requires rigorous understanding of the content and is typically reserved for graduate students. Upon graduation, she hopes to pursue a career in either research or pharmaceutical science. Nicole received her Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree from Southwestern.
