Honor America’s best known distance runner – Steve Prefontaine – in his hometown of Coos Bay, Oregon when Southwestern Oregon Community College hosts the 5th Annual Prefontaine Masters and Open Track and Field Meet on Saturday, April 11, 2015. The meet is open to all College and Masters Athletes and will be held at the College’s track facilities at 1988 Newmark Ave. In addition to most collegiate events, special events for Masters Athletes holding a current USATF card will be held as well. Each year, several athletes achieving their event standards for qualifying to the USATF Masters National Championships participate in the Annual Prefontaine Masters Meet. Therefore, every attempt is made to provide Masters Athletes with race distances and requirements to make it a worthwhile event to attend. If an event is not listed on the schedule, many times it can be added upon request. The Coos Bay area offers several lodging options including motels, RV parks, and nearby State/ County parks. Entry fees are $30 for the first three events and $5 for each additional event. A meal is provided for all participants. Dressing rooms, shower facilities, and Athletic Training services are available as well. Whether a bystander or an athlete, join us in honoring Pre’s legacy as athletes nationwide travel to the Bay Area to participate.
