Coos Bay, OR – Southwestern Oregon Community College’s Oregon Coast Culinary Institute (OCCI) competitive Ice Team traveled to Frankenmuth, Michigan in January, where they won the National Ice Carving Association U.S. National Collegiate Ice Carving Championship. The competition was hosted by John Zehnder of Frankenmuth.
OCCI’s newly formed team competed in three categories: Compulsory Single Block Design; Freestyle; and Multi-Block. The team took home eight bronze medals, two for each team member along with a Gold and Silver Medal for the Multi-block winning teams. Seven teams competed in total with the OCCI team taking home both First and Second Place for the overall school win.
