Southwestern Oregon’s women opened the NWAC basketball tournament in Kennewick, WA with a 70-69 win over Bellevue Saturday. On Sunday, the Lakers beat Clark College of Vancouver, WA, 73-70. SWOCC is scheduled to play Lane CC, Monday, 6 p.m.

Southwestern Oregon’s track team competed in the Eric Anderson Ice Breaker at Linfield College over the weekend. Coach Dan Neal, “We had a great first meet with several athletes posting good times. We have the best team unity we have had in many years.” Brooks Ney was the only Laker to win an event. Ney ran a NWAC qualifying time of 15.21 in the 110 high hurdles as he ran away from the field. Other athletes to achieve NWAC qualifying marks are: Alexis Crellin – Steeplechase 7th 13:08; Hannah Smith 4 X 100 Relay 4th 51.85 (Courtney May, Katie Pitts, Helene Sink), Katie Pitts Triple Jump 6th 34’ 93/4”; Rachael Huffman Javelin 6th 124’ 2”; Shot Put 5th 37’ 3”; Brooks Ney 110 Hurdles 1st 15.21; Riley Greenfield High Jump 5th 6’ ¾ ”.
