The replica “Tall Ships” Lady Washington & the Hawaiian Chieftain will forego their annual visit to the Central Oregon Coast this Summer. The two ships will; however, visit Coos Bay and Astoria as planned. Port Commissioners in Newport reportedly revoked the permit for the ships over crowd concerns on the normally busy historic Newport Bayfront during their Summer Season. Waterfront merchants signed a petition leading to the Commissioner’s decision. The Gray’s Harbor based ships will visit Coos Bay July 12-25.
