On Sunday, April 1, 2018, the Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a member of the public reporting damage to headstones at the Yoncalla Cemetary. The deputy located several historic headstones which had been damaged. After reviewing evidence, the deputy contacted three 16 year-old Yoncalla teenagers who ultimately admitted to causing the damage. The deputy notified the juveniles’ parents and cited the teens for Abuse of a Memorial to the Dead, a Class A Misdemeanor.
