Kate Brown, Governor of the State of Oregon, has proclaimed April 12-18 to be public safety telecommunicators week in Oregon, and is encouraging Oregonians to join in observance. The proclamation states that telecommunications professionals serve Oregon’s citizens and visitors by answering their requests for assistance to dispatch the appropriate law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services when needed. “Professional public safety telecommunicators are true first responders who show dedication every day with professionalism and commitment to the public safety community and the citizens they serve,” said Mark Tennyson, Oregon Office of Emergency Management 911 Section Manager. The Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO), an organization of nearly 10,000 people from the United States and Canada, has set aside the second week in April to recognize telecommunicators and their crucial role in the protection of life and property.
