City of Coos Bay release – Due to the continued inclement weather and fire danger, the Coos Bay Fire Department is banning the use of yard maintenance power equipment. This includes but is not limited to lawn mowers, weed eaters, edges, and chainsaws. The power equipment ban is due to the continued fire risk to our area and is consistent with other current bans throughout our state and region. The power equipment and burn ban beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8 will be in effect until at least September 14th at 8:00 am, at which time both will be reevaluated. With the overall fire situation in the state and lack of outside resources available to assist us, we need each citizen to do their part in helping prevent fires. If you witness someone using power equipment, you are encouraged to first attempt to inform them of the equipment ban. If you are unable to inform them and must report a violation of the power equipment ban, please call 541-269-8911 to report it. If you are reporting a fire or other emergency, you should call 911 and not any of the business lines.
