“The Oregon Dunes: Past, Present and Future” – Lecture at Southwestern, Feb. 25

SWOCC release – Southwestern’s Geology Club will be hosting Dina Pavlis on Monday, February 25, 2019 at 2:00 pm on the Coos campus, 1988 Newmark Ave., Coos Bay, in Eden Hall Room 1 for a talk on “The Oregon Dunes: Past, Present and Future”. Dina Pavlis has lived and played on the Oregon dunes for over 15 years. A volunteer interpretive ranger, photographer and author, she has a special skill in delivering the story of the dunes in a way that is exciting, understandable and engaging for people of all ages. Dina is a member of the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative (SaveOregonDunes.org), a group of stakeholders and community volunteers working together to save the Oregon dunes. The Oregon dunes are important to our coastal communities, both economically and ecologically. Yet, the dunes are disappearing before our eyes. Author and Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative member, Dina Pavlis, will focus on the geologic history of the Oregon dunes including why they exist, current threats to our dune system from invasive plants and what’s being done to try and save them. Additionally Dina will touch on the wildlife and plants that can be found in the dunes. Join us for this free presentation that is open to all on our Oregon dunes to find out more about this vanishing resource and what is being done to save it.
