A Coos Co. Grand Jury has indicted the grandson of a male murdered in Coos Bay on Sunday, Dec. 10. According to a news release from District Attorney R. Paul Frasier, 29-year old James Jay Thomasson was indicted Thursday afternoon, Dec. 14, on the charge of Murder, “alleging that the defendant intentionally caused the death of his grandfather, Elmer Dennis.” The body of the 80-year old victim was found in his driveway on the 1200 block Minnesota Ave. in the Englewood District. Thomasson was also indicted on charges of Attempted Murder, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Menacing. The Murder charge “carries a mandatory sentence of Life Imprisonment and requiring the Defendant to serve 25 years before being eligible for parole.” Thomasson’s arraignment on the charges was set for Monday morning, Dec. 18, 8:30 a.m. in the Coos County Circuit Court as Coquille.
