The Port of Newport has announced receiving a $2 million TIGER grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to improve its International Terminal on Yaquina Bay. The grant will reportedly be used to develop 10-acres, which includes a wetlands mitigation site, grading of the property, installation of fencing, building of a storm-water collection system and extend city water and sewer service to the area. The land is former dredge spoils from the bay, much like where the Hatfield Marine Science Center is located on South Beach. A Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is also located on the dredge spoils.
