Timber Thefts, July 12

News release CCSO.  On July 11, 2017, at about 0305 hours, deputies were dispatched to 55029 Fistrap Road in Coquille for a report of subjects trespassing and possibly stealing timber. Deputies arrived and located Kristina Handsaker, 38 years old of Coquille, hiding in the brush. Handsaker admitted to trespassing on the property and harvesting cedar from the property without permission. Cedar boughs are harvested to be used for greenery in floral arrangements and other items.  Often people will trespass and steal the boughs from another. It was learned that Handsaker was also on supervised probation and her Probation Officer was contacted, who authorized a detainer on her as well for violating her probation. Handsaker was arrested and transported to the Coos County Jail and held without bail for the probation violation. The timber theft investigation is continuing and more arrests are anticipated in the future.  There had been at least one other person out in the brush hiding from the deputies.
