CBFD release. March 8, 2018 – Just after 11:00 am, Coos Bay Fire Department was dispatched to a reported trailer fire in the Libby District of Coos Bay. Upon arriving on scene, firefighters found light smoking coming from the residence. The incident commander made contact with the resident and learned that all occupants and animals were safely out of the residence. Firefighters quickly made entry into the residence and extinguished the fire. The fire was contained to the bathroom but smoke damage affected the entire house. After an investigation of the cause was completed, it was determined that a match used to light a candle had been accidentally disposed of into the trash can in the bathroom. Working smoke alarms alerted the occupant of the fire and allowed her to escape without injury and further damage to the trailer. Coos Bay Fire Department would like to remind its citizens that in partnership with the Office of State Fire Marshal they are able to provide smoke alarms to any Coos Bay resident free of charge.
