The involved train has been moved and all roads that were previously closed have been reopened. Please use extra caution as there will be increased train traffic through the early morning hours due to multiple north and southbound trains that were held while the incident was being investigated. The investigation is ongoing and further details will be released at a later time. On Thursday November 2, 2017 at approximately 9:13 P.M. Junction City Police received a report of a train versus pedestrian crash at the main-line railroad tracks just east of Front Street at the intersection of 6th Avenue in Junction City. Upon arrival at 9:17 P.M. emergency personnel determined one(1) adult pedestrian was struck and immediately killed by a south-bound Union Pacific train. Officers confirmed the railroad crossing arms were down, and the warning lights and audible signals were activated and functioning correctly upon their arrival. The pedestrian has been tentatively identified however the name will not be released until the family has been notified. The exact length of the train is unknown at this time, however, all intersections from 18th Avenue through 2nd Avenue are blocked by the train. The only access to the east side of Junction City is by way of 1st Avenue. All streets will remain blocked until the investigation is complete.
