An Oregon State Police (OSP) recruit trooper interrupted a woman’s attempt to take her own life Sunday morning when stopping to check on what appeared to be a disabled vehicle along Highway 126W near Mapleton. The woman is being treated at a Springfield-area hospital. On May 25, 2014 at approximately 8:45 a.m., an OSP recruit trooper patrolling on Highway 126W near milepost 12 stopped to check on a passenger vehicle parked about 25 yards off the north side of the highway. As the trooper approached the car she saw the driver’s window partially rolled down. Upon getting closre, the trooper saw an adult female in the reclined driver’s seat in medical distress with a plastic bag over her head and pills in her hand. The trooper called for medics and initiated emergency medical care until relieved by medics. The 52-year old woman was transported to a landing site location and then taken by REACH air ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.
