Weather permitting, two days of fog seal work is scheduled to start on Tuesday, June 9 over an eight-mile stretch of U.S. 101 from south of the Ophir Wayside State Park Rest Area to the Rogue River Bridge (milepost 327). The ODOT maintenance crew will apply a fog seal — a spray of asphalt emulsion used to waterproof the roadway, which delays weathering and reduces the aging susceptibility by lowering permeability to water and air. “It is crucial that we have two dry, warm days for this work,” said ODOT Maintenance Manager Brian Watjen. The maintenance operation is planned to run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Motorists should expect minor delays. Advance signing will also be used to alert traffic. “Fog seals are a cost-effective way to maintain the highway,” said Watjen. “We understand how important it is to travelers on the Oregon Coast Highway finish this work safely and with as little disruption as possible.
