The U.S. 101 open house scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 23 from 6 p.m. is cancelled due to the Chetco Bar fire. The event was planned to be held at the Harbor Rural Fire Protection District, 98069 West Benham Lane. “Many agencies we hoped would attend the open house are busy fighting the Chetco Bar fire or providing assistance to the firefighting efforts, including our agency,” said ODOT District Manager Darrin Neavoll. “We will wait until there’s a better time, hopefully soon, when we can schedule the open house.” The U.S. 101 striping plan would remove a northbound travel lane and add a center turn lane. ODOT proposes this solution until funding can be secured to rebuild and widen the highway to accommodate two travel lanes in each direction with a center turn lane and wider shoulders. This striping solution resulted from citizen feedback received during the U.S. 101 corridor plan open house held last December at the same location.
