Storm damage collapsed a section of U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway) roughly 10 miles north of Gold Beach on Sunday afternoon. ODOT rerouted traffic to Ophir Road with flaggers providing traffic control. ODOT maintenance crews met on site and assessed the damage Sunday afternoon. ODOT Geotechnical and Environmental staff arrived Monday morning to develop a repair solution. “We’re meeting with contractors soon,” said ODOT District Manager Darrin Neavoll. “Once we have awarded the bid, the contractor will replace the existing culvert beneath the highway and base material. We expect to have the highway reopened before the weekend.” Oregon 241 (Coos River Highway) – Oregon 241 reopened at 7 p.m. Sunday, following a five-hour closure due to high water roughly 12 miles east of Coos Bay. The Coos River rose about two feet over the highway. Oregon 42 (Coos Bay-Roseburg Highway) – Watch for spots of high water along the highway. Small slides were reported in several locations. ODOT is working on Camas Mountain, so travelers should expect minor delays. Oregon 42S (Coquille-Bandon Highway) – ODOT continues to monitor high water conditions along the highway. Travelers are advised to use extreme caution as they could be the first to encounter water on the highway. “There’s plenty of clean-up work for the week ahead,” said Neavoll, who manages state highways in Coos, Curry and Douglas Counties. “We’ve taken a lot of water over the last couple days and the full extent of the damage isn’t clear yet.”
