Coos and Curry Counties Add Jobs in Leisure and Hospitality and in Construction Coos County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased slightly in July to 5.1 percent from a revised 4.8 percent in June. The rate is below the July 2016 rate (6.6%). Oregon’s seasonally adjusted July unemployment rate was 3.8 percent; the national rate was 4.3 percent. The county’s total nonfarm payroll employment decreased over the month by 520 jobs, which primarily reflected the summer break for local school districts. Coos County gained 330 jobs over the year ending in July for a 1.5 percent annual growth rate. Curry County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased slightly in July to 5.6 percent from a revised 5.4 percent in June. The rate is below the July 2016 rate (6.8%). The county’s total payroll employment showed no substantive, net job change over the month.
