Unidentified Human Bones at Gardiner, Oct. 4

On Saturday, October 1st, 2016, at about 1820 hours, while fishing, a subject’s boat broke down on the Umpqua River in the area of the former International Paper Mill in Gardiner, Oregon . The fisherman was able to get his boat to shore. While gathering wood for a fire, the fisherman found what he believed to be human bones along the riverbank. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded and confirmed the skeletonized remains were human. The remains are unidentified and will be taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Portland to be examined and processed for possible identification.
