United Way of Southwestern Oregon offers help to Seniors and others who cannot perform their own yard work.  There is still time to sign up, Seniors and people with disabilities in Coos Bay and North Bend may have yard work done for free at their homes on the last Saturday of April through a program coordinated by United Way of Southwestern Oregon.  The project is called the “Day of Caring” and will involve local service clubs and other volunteers who will stack wood, mow lawns, carry away trash, and do other manual labor jobs. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 26th.  This is the sixth year United Way is offering the program. Last year more than 200 volunteers helped at the homes of 60 needy families. According to United Way officials, the agency wants to offer a helping hand to those who need it while we help beautify the Bay Area.  While United Way is contacting local senior centers, government agencies, churches and others to find people in need, any Bay Area senior or disabled individual interested in receiving help is invited to apply by contacting United Way at (541) 267-5202 or email:  uwswo@frontier.com. To be eligible, a person must be a senior, live within the city limits of Coos Bay/North Bend and have a manual labor project approved by United Way Day of Caring volunteers.  The event is being coordinated with Les’ Sanitary Service and Coos Bay Sanitary Service who are providing free disposal service, and the Cities of Coos Bay and North Bend. NW Natural Gas is hosting a “Celebration” BBQ afterwards for volunteers.  FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT: Bill Harsh, 267-5202, United Way of Southwestern Oregon.
