News release Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office.  On October 26, 2016, at about 1353 hours, while conducting an off road patrol of the North Spit, a deputy encountered a 1988 Toyota Pickup.  It was noted the pickup did not have a red or orange flag mounted on it as required by Oregon Law.  The deputy contacted two male occupants located inside of the vehicle and they were identified as Trevis Benson and Morgan Kutsch.  A firearm was observed in plain view between the two men.  Through the course of the investigation, it was found that Kutsch was a convicted felon and not able to be in possession of or around firearms.  Benson told Deputies there was a pistol located underneath the driver’s seat and unlawfully concealed.  Kutsch was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Felon in Possession) and a probation violation.  Benson was cited for Driving While Suspended, Operation without an OHV Permit and Operation without required equipment (Flag).  Benson will be referred to the Coos County District Attorney’s Office for Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
