On September 13, 2019 members of the Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division with assistance from Agents of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration completed an investigation into the unlawful selling of shark fins. Agnes Yu (52) of Happy Valley, OR. was issued a citation to appear into the Multnomah County Circuit Court on the charge of Unlawful Selling/Distribution of Shark Fin, which is a Class A Misdemeanor. The investigation revealed YU unlawfully sold dried shark fin out of Wing Ming Herbs located at 2738 SE 82nd Ave. in Portland, OR. The 2011 Oregon Legislature passed HB 2838 which prohibited the possession, selling, offering for sale, trading, or distributing shark fins. It is estimated upwards of 100 million sharks are killed globally each year for their fins.
