Kenyon Yovan has been named first-team Freshman All-America by Baseball America, the magazine announced. The honor is the latest for the Ducks’ closer who had a dominant first season in Eugene. In addition to the Baseball America award, Yovan was named a first-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA), a national freshman of the year by Collegiate Baseball as well as a first-team freshman All-American, a finalist for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year award, a Perfect Game second-team freshman All-American, an ABCA second-team all-region pick and a first-team All-Pac-12 Conference selection. Yovan (Beaverton, Ore. / Westview HS) finished his first year in Eugene with 15 saves, which tied for fourth nationally, and had a 1.97 ERA with a 1-1 record. The Ducks’ stopper struck out 36 and walked just six in 32 innings pitched. He picked up a save in half of Oregon’s 30 wins and finished with the fourth most saves in school history. Yovan is currently playing for the Collegiate National Team where he has pitched two scoreless innings of relief while not allowing a hit and striking out three.
