The University of Oregon football team will open the collegiate season at home Sept. 4 against Fresno State. Fans have been anxious to return to Autzen Stadium in Eugene; however, they will find a new anti-COVID-19 atmosphere. Here’s part of the announcement released Friday, Aug. 20. “The health and safety of you, our student-athletes and our staff will always be the top priority for Oregon Athletics. As we head towards kickoff, we want you to be aware of several changes to the normal gameday experience at Autzen Stadium. These changes include new health and safety protocols developed in consultation with local health authorities, as well as the use of new technologies that will improve the gameday experience. With the exception of mobile ticketing, all new health and safety protocols enacted as a result of the continued presence of COVID-19 will be evaluated on a weekly basis in consultation with—and with direction from—local public health authorities and the UO Incident Management Team.” The changes include all UO venues and involve all Duck fans 12 and older who now have to show proof of vaccination to gain entry. Those without proof can use “documentation of a negative test taken within three days of the event.” That’s just to get in the door/gate where it gets a little stricter inside. Those under 12 are not subject to proof of vaccination or a COVID-19 test, but must be fully masked at all times, except when eating or drinking. “All guests ages 5 and over are required to wear face coverings.” Getting tickets to Duck events will also be different this year, “Beginning this season, fans will utilize the ease and convenience of mobile tickets via the GoDucks Gameday App presented by Pepsi. Physical event tickets will no longer be printed.” The new policy goes into effect Monday, Aug. 23rd.
