The 18th-ranked Oregon volleyball team got a live tune-up before next week’s season-opener on Saturday in a green-yellow scrimmage, with Team Green and Team Yellow playing to a 14-25, 25-23, 25-22, 9-15 tie in four sets at Matthew Knight Arena, in Eugene. Team Yellow was made up of nine Ducks that will likely comprise the majority of the Ducks’ main rotation, while Team Green consisted of the remaining five Ducks with setters August Raskie and Maggie Scott rotating between both teams. Pro Duck Amanda Benson, assistant coach Dave Butler and volunteer assistant coach James Tessier also played on Team Green. The Ducks will now have a couple more days of practice in Eugene before heading to Gainesville, Fla., to open their season against No. 5 Nebraska (Friday, 2 p.m. PT) and No. 1 Texas (Saturday, 4:30 p.m., Longhorn Network) in the VERT Challenge.

The Oregon State volleyball team took another step in its preparation for the 2017 season Friday evening when the Beavers hosted the Orange & Black Exhibition in Gill Coliseum. The scrimmage was the first opportunity for Beaver Nation to see this year’s team in action. Team Black won the three-set scrimmage, 25-21, 25-23 and 17-25. Second-year head coach Mark Barnard was the pleased with the result, observing from the sidelines while assistant coaches Jessica Quinn and Ron Zwerver took charge of each team. OSU opens the 2017 season when it hosts the Beaver State Classic at Gill Coliseum next weekend. The Beavers begin the tournament with a match against Idaho, Aug. 25 at 10 a.m. OSU returns to the floor that night to face Pacific at 7 p.m. The tourney concludes with the Beavers hosting Kansas State at 7 p.m. on Aug. 26.
