Work has begun north and south of Cottage Grove. As of Monday, August 7, crews are doing deck seal work on Interstate 5 between mileposts 171.56 and 179.64 around Cottage Grove. Work will be done at night to reduce impact on traffic, from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. One lane will be closed one at a time. The project is expected to take three weeks to complete. No work will occur between August 18 and August 25, to keep lanes open for travelers during the eclipse. The project is expected to be finished on August 31. August 7-8 – deck sealing on southbound Coast Fork Willamette bridge; August 13-14 – deck sealing on southbound Gettings Creek and Brown Creek bridges; August 15-16 – deck sealing on northbound and southbound Whiteaker Creek bridge; August 18-25 – work suspended for the eclipse; August 28-29 – deck sealing on northbound Row River bridge; August 30-31 – deck sealing on southbound Row River bridge. Deck sealing is a necessary and cost-effective process that helps prolong the lives of our bridges by protecting them from corrosive materials. After deck sealing is finished, crews will be striping the bridges on September 6 and 7. Travelers should expect delays during construction and watch for crews in the area.
