Utility Scam, Oct. 28

News release Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office.  On 10/27/2016 citizens of Coos County began receiving phone calls from a man saying his name was Travis representing Pacific Power.  “Travis” is instructing people to call 1-800-490-2177 and they will give instructions on how to take care of your bill.  Right now the instructions are telling people to go to Rite Aid in Bandon to the 3rd checkstand and the cashier will help them get a money order or voucher to pay their bill. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office wants to let people know that these calls are a scam.  Bandon Police Department has also been made aware of this scam and will be looking into it as well.  Any person receiving suspicious calls from anyone requesting they send money or inquiring about personal information should not respond.  If you receive a call that seems suspicious or “too good to be true” please feel free to contact our office at 541-396-7800 or you can contact the Consumer Fraud Protection Section of the Oregon Department of Justice at 877-877-9392.
