Travelers may experience delays on a 10-mile stretch of Highway 18 in the H.B. Van Duzer State Scenic Corridor while crews remove unhealthy trees. Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will be working under an agreement with Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) on the three-day project, set for Feb. 24-26, weather permitting. The tree removal will occur during daylight hours, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. ODOT crews will cut down dead trees that pose a threat to traffic along sections of the highway from milepost 8.5 to milepost 19, stretching from Grand Ronde to the coast. Most trees will be left where they fall to decompose naturally. When crews cut trees that could fall on the road, the highway will be closed in both directions for a short time. After crews safely remove those trees, flaggers and a pilot car will control traffic through the area. Travelers should plan on delays of no longer than twenty minutes.
