Bandon, Ore. – Join the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for a fun-filled Saturday on September 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the New River Area of Critical Environmental Concern to help the agency complete projects in celebration of National Public Lands Day! National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest volunteer event for public lands, and the BLM believes partnerships and inclusion are vital to managing sustainable, working public lands. Volunteers will complete light maintenance on portions of the 5-mile trail system and pull European beachgrass from several areas to help restore the native dune system. In addition, the BLM will offer a kids learning activity, guided nature hikes and access to the newly completed New River Nature Center. All ages and abilities are welcome. “The New River area is often described as one of the last remaining wild places on the Oregon Coast,” said Coos Bay District Manager Kathy Westenskow-Davis. “Volunteers help us complete important restoration projects and keep trails in great shape so visitors can enjoy this unique place.” Those participating in the event will receive a free National Public Lands Day t-shirt and a voucher good for a fee-free day at a public lands site. The BLM will provide food, and the necessary tools and safety equipment to complete the projects. Volunteers should bring water and sunscreen, and wear sturdy shoes and work clothes. New River Area of Critical Environmental Concern is located eight miles south of Bandon, Oregon. From Highway 101, turn west onto Croft Lake Lane. New River and the Nature Center is located at the end of Croft Lake Lane. To learn more about the event visit: https://www.neefusa.org/public-lands-day.
