City of Coos Bay news release.  The City of Coos Bay’s Wastewater Treatment Plant No. 2 located at 100 Fulton Avenue has experienced a plant upset.  The City’s wastewater crews are taking immediate action; however, it is not known at this time how long it will take to get the plant back in balance.  The City’s contractor has not identified a cause for this issue, but he will continue to investigate.  Because of the potential of endangering human health and the environment, this situation was reported to Department of Environmental Quality, Coos County and Wellness, and Oregon Department of Agriculture.   Prior to harvesting shellfish, it is recommended that you check with the Department of Agriculture and/or Coos County Public Health for any updates. As you may know, the City is currently under construction of a new treatment plant that will replace the existing plant at 100 Fulton Avenue.  The new plant will have greater capacity and newer wastewater technology as it relates to process and disinfection.  The new plant will be located at the northeast corner of Fulton Avenue and Empire Boulevard.  Any questions can be directed to the City of Coos Bay Public Works & Community Development Department at (541) 269-8918.
