Starting on Tuesday night, July 5, Interstate 5 motorists should expect nighttime lane closures in both directions near the Drain interchange (Exit 162). ODOT and prime contractor K&E Excavating are beginning a two-month construction phase that will resurface a one-mile section of the Interstate between milepost 161 and 162. Until the middle of July, the contractor will focus on moving barrier and installing temporary striping. Paving work for the current construction phase is scheduled to begin the week of July 18 and will continue until the end of August. Two lanes of travel will be maintained in each direction during daylight hours in July and August. On-ramp closed: The southbound on-ramp at Exit 162 (Drain/Oregon 38 junction) will remain closed until October. A two mile detour is in place. Oregon 38 motorists are advised to take I-5 north to Exit 163 (Curtin) and turn around. The I-5 Anlauf to Elkhead Road Paving project will resurface eight miles of Interstate 5 between milepost 154 and 162 and construct a southbound climbing lane at milepost 161. Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2017.
