They are replicas of 18th Century ships that sailed the Pacific Northwest and Pacific Ocean. The Tall Ships Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain will be officially welcomed to the Bay Area with a ceremony Friday, May 2nd, 4 p.m., on the downtown Coos Bay docks. The Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors will participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony on the Boardwalk with the crews of the two vessels. The ships will be in Port through May 11, providing tours and even mock battles on the Bay between the two ships. Both ships will depart Coos Bay but head to separate ports. The Lady Washington’s destination is Newport, while the Hawaiian Chieftain will go further up the coast to Garibaldi.
