On April 7, 2017 at approximately 2:30 pm, OSP Troopers responded to a fatal single vehicle crash on Highway 58 near milepost 52. This location is about 17 miles east of Oakridge. Preliminary investigation indicates a grey 2016 Ford Focus, operated by 35 year old Tacoma Washington resident Kami Palmer and passenger, 41 year old Frederick Larry, also from Tacoma, was traveling westbound on Highway 58. Palmer was executing a pass and for unknown reasons lost control of the vehicle. The Ford traveled off of the roadway and crashed into a tree, coming to a rest in the ditch. Both Palmer and Larry were transported via ground ambulance to the Riverbend Hospital in Springfield. Palmer died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash and Larry is being treated for serious injuries. Speed is considered to be a contributing factor in the crash and both occupants were wearing safety restraints.
