William A. Selden is the featured maritime artist for Coos Art Museum’s 23rd Annual Maritime Art Exhibition. Selden’s work will be on display in the Perkins Gallery during the maritime exhibition which runs from July 9 through September 24, 2016. William A. Selden is a resident of Coos Bay and a past participant and winner of many awards from Annual Maritime Art Exhibitions. In 2011 he received “Best of Show”. In 2010 he received the “People’s Choice Award” while in 2008 he received both the “Port Award” selected by the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay and the “Director’s Award,” selected by the museum’s Board of Directors. Selden received a formal art education at both the California Institute of Arts (Chouinard) and the Art Center College of Design. He is a Member of the American Society of Marine Artists. Coos Art Museum Annual Maritime Art Exhibition is the American Society of Marine Artists (ASMA) regional competition for the entire western United States. It is the oldest continuous Maritime art competition on the West Coast. The opening of Selden’s exhibition coincides with Coos Art Museum’s annual maritime fundraising dinner beginning at 5pm, July 9. This exciting event features the popular silent art auction, beer and wine sales, delicious food offerings catered by The Coach House Restaurant of Coos Bay, and festive camaraderie. Auction artworks include pieces by participating 23rd Annual Maritime Art Exhibition artists and local artists. A special facet of the auction event is the sale of recently completed plein air maritime paintings. Other items include goods and services provided by area businesses. Tickets for the dinner and auction are $45 for Museum members and $50 for non-members. Coos Art Museum has been a cultural focal point of Oregon’s scenic Southern Coast since 1966. It occupies an historic 1936 Art Deco US Federal Building in downtown Coos Bay. The Museum offers a wide range of arts activities including exhibitions, art classes, and lectures. Hours are 10:00am to 4:00pm, Tuesday through Friday and 1:00 to 4:00 pm on Saturday.
