The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department has cancelled Whale Watch Week along the Oregon Coast for the second-straight year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, California Gray Whales will continue their Southerly Migration from the Gulf of Alaska to warner waters of Baja, Mexico along the Coast despite the pandemic on land. What is cancelled is the volunteer program that provided trained knowledgeable volunteers at 24-sites along the Oregon Coast who help explain the migration to thousands of visitors each year. The volunteer-manned Whale Watch Program normally ran from Dec. 27 though Dec. 30. The Spring Whale Watch Program in March has also been impacted by the COVID-19 virus the past two years.
