The Zonta Club of the Coos Bay Area is pleased to honor retiring County Clerk Terri Turi as part of their annual Celebrity Dinner on Saturday, February 18th, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at the Mill Casino Hotel’s Salmon Room. Terri Turi will be recognized for her 18 years of public service, and her countless hours of volunteer work on behalf of women in our community.  Turi was named City Recorder of the Year in 1995 by the Oregon Association of Municipal Recorders, was recognized as a local Woman of Achievement by the Delta Kappa Gamma Society in 1997, and served as President of the Oregon Association of County Clerks in 2011.  She has also served in many local and regional positions for Zonta International. The theme this year is “Zonta Derby:  A Run for the Rosez”, and the event will include a dinner, dance and auction.  Derby attire is encouraged. Proceeds from the charity event will benefit Zonta’s initiatives to support women and children in our community, including scholarships and community grants.  Zonta also provides programs such as the Little Red Schoolhouse, which provides thousands of dollars of school supplies in Coos County each fall, Dressing Your Best, a seminar for women returning to the workforce, Girls Rock, a workshop for young women to learn about opportunities in science, engineering, technology, and math, and an annual Self-Defense Workshop presented in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies. The mission of Zonta International is to improve the legal, economic, health, educational, and professional status of women through service and advocacy. Those interested in donating to or attending the event can contact Jennifer Groth at sjgroth@charter.net or 541-217-8293.
