Barview, CCSO release – On April 26th 2018 at approximately 7:25 p.m. a Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a motorcycle driving recklessly in the Barview area. The operator of the motorcycle of Coos Bay accelerated and led police on a high speed chase. Deputies pursued the motorcycle through some of the back streets of the Barview district for a short period. Speeds were in excess of 80 miles per hour at times. The motorcycle rider had to place his foot down at times to steady himself. The deputies lost sight of the motorcycle momentarily and then found it but without its rider at a residence near the intersection of South Spring Road and Caraway Street. Sergeant Adam Slater and his K9 partner Odin was the pursuing unit and as Sgt. Slater yelled to another deputy he was going to begin tracking with K9 Odin, the operator of the motorcycle yelled from the interior of a garage “I give up, I’m in here.” The driver of the motorcycle, Charles Eastwood, 41 of Coos Bay, was taken into custody without further incident. The motorcycle was impounded as it had a mutilated vehicle identification number. Police were able to apprehend Mr. Eastwood who was transported to the Coos County Jail for Attempt to Elude, Reckless Driving, Attempted Escape 3, Reckless Endangering and a bail of $85,000 was placed. Officers from the Oregon State Police assisted during the investigation.
