On Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at approximately 8:18 P.M. Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Hwy 101 near milepost 148. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Chevy HHR, operated by Faith Goodman (49) of Willamina, was traveling northbound on Hwy 101 when for unknown reasons veered off the road and struck a tree. The passenger, John Runningbird (36) of Grande Ronde, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Hwy 101 northbound was closed for several hours following the crash.
