Unbeatens Marshfield and Siuslaw were joined by North Bend as winners during the first round of the 4A Far West League football season Friday night. The Pirates downed visiting Brookings-Harbor 45-20, while Siuslaw won at home over South Umpqua 28-7, and North Bend beat Douglas 41-14 at Winston. This Friday’s games have Siuslaw (1-0, 4-0) at North Bend (1-0, 2-2), Marshfield (1-0, 4-0) at Douglas (0-1, 1-3) and Brookings-Harbor (0-1, 1-3) at South Umpqua (0-1, 1-3).

North Bend’s volleyball team fell 2-0 (25-15, 25-10) to Cascade Christian Saturday at the St. Mary’s Invite in Medford.

Marshfield’s boys were fourth out of ten teams in the 1A/2A/3A/4A division at the Northwest Classic held at Lane CC in Eugene Saturday. Senior Sawyer Heckard (16:39.8) was second overall, while teammate Ian Emlet (17:19.4) came in fifth. Freshman Jeremy Roe was 25th (19:06.5), followed by 36 Isaac Hasel (19:35.8), 37 Ethan Cleveland (19:35.9); 47 Gabe Delgado (20:16.0). The Pirate girls were fifth out of eight teams. Freshman Jazmin Chavez placed third (20:23.9) overall. She was followed by senior 15 Isabel Groth (22:04.3); 50 Madelyn Suppes (24:46.2); 54 Metzin Rodriguez (25:13.7); 55 Patricia Stockli (25:19.4). North Bend’s girls were fourth out of nine teams at the Woahink Lake XC Invitational south of Florence Saturday. The Bulldogs were led by senior Gabby Hobson’s (20:43.5) fifth place finish.
